Upper East: BTU Vice Chancellor advocates for practical, research-driven education

The Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, has called on universities, particularly technical institutions, to transition from theoretical research to practical, solution-oriented approaches that address real-world challenges.

Speaking on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio, Prof. Alnaa said the increasing competitiveness of the global economy, driven by rapid technological advancements demands that university education must be restructured to equip students with the skills necessary to meet industrial and societal demands.

“The world is now a highly competitive society with the rise of technology. Therefore, our universities must readjust their teaching and research methods to fine-tune students’ skills for real-life applications.”

He added that BTU has already adopted practical-based strategies to ensure students gain industry-relevant skills.

“At BTU, we have taken significant steps to bridge this gap. Our programmes are structured to provide students with industry-focused training, ensuring that research outcomes are solution-driven rather than merely academic.”
