The recollection of parliamentary election results for the Obuasi East constituency has officially confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner, solidifying his position by a slim margin of 19 votes.
The announcement follows a review process conducted at the Greater Accra Regional Electoral Commission (EC) office amid heightened tensions and scrutiny from political stakeholders.
The recollection, which forms part of a broader initiative affecting nine constituencies, was necessitated by disputes over procedural irregularities reported during the initial vote tally.
Political parties raised concerns, particularly the NDC and the NPP, about discrepancies in figures, prompting the EC to act in the interest of maintaining public trust in the electoral process.
During the recollection, the EC disclosed that Patrick Boakye Yiadom garnered 18,558 votes, narrowly edging out Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who secured 18,539 votes. The difference of just 19 votes highlights the intense competition in this constituency, where every ballot proved pivotal.
An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, trailed with 424 votes, reaffirming the dominance of the two major political parties in the race.
The recollection was conducted under the strict supervision of EC officials and representatives from the NPP, NDC, and other relevant stakeholders.
