Violent clashes in Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri leave two dead, hundreds displaced

The Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri district in the North East Region has been thrown into turmoil following violent communal clashes that have claimed two lives and displaced more than 500 people.

The conflict erupted last week in Ngagma-Gbregu over a chieftaincy dispute, sparked by the installation of parallel chiefs by the Chief of Binde. The violence, which lasted three days, resulted in extensive destruction across the affected communities.

Over 150 houses were set ablaze, and more than 5,000 bags of stored foodstuffs were destroyed, worsening the already dire humanitarian situation.

Many of those displaced, including women and children, have been left without food or shelter, deepening their suffering.

In the aftermath of the violence, affected residents have called on the government for urgent relief, particularly food aid, to prevent starvation.

During a visit to the area, the Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu, Abednago Bandim, engaged with displaced residents, who reiterated their urgent plea for government intervention to ease their hardship.
