The Government Transition Team has firmly addressed concerns raised by the incoming administration regarding alleged “last-minute payments and recruitments” carried out after the December 7 general elections.
According to the Government Transition Team, no new financial clearances have been issued to any ministry, department, or agency to authorise payments or recruit personnel during the post-election period.
In a media briefing held in Accra on Thursday, December 19, Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson for the Government Transition Team and Minister of Information, categorically dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
She emphasised that all financial and recruitment activities currently in progress were initiated long before the elections.
Madam Abubakar explained that the government has upheld transparency and compliance with the Transition Act, ensuring a seamless transfer of power to the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
She pointed out that the claims of last-minute decisions were a misrepresentation of facts and urged all parties to approach the transition process with professionalism and restraint.
Clarifying specific activities, Madam Abubakar highlighted that the recruitment of nurses and allied health professionals was set in motion well before the elections.
The portal for the recruitment process was opened months earlier, and the associated procedures were conducted in accordance with established timelines.
Similarly, she noted that the tax waivers for businesses under the One-District, One-Factory initiative were deliberated and approved by Parliament before the election season.
Additionally, Madam Abubakar shed light on the long-term planning involved in the procurement of naval ships. “The processes for purchasing 65-feet naval ships were initiated three years ago, demonstrating the strategic foresight and planning of this administration,” she stated.
Regarding the recruitment of security personnel, she clarified that this process began at the start of the year and followed the appropriate protocols, ensuring fairness and consistency.
